About
What is FOODPrint?
FOODPrint is a two-year project funded by the Erasmus+ programme that brings together young people, youth workers, and civil society organizations to rethink how we consume food. The project’s name
combines the words “food” and “footprint” to highlight the connection between what we eat and its impact on the environment. With food waste and unsustainable consumption habits on the rise, especially among youth, the project aims to encourage more responsible and
eco-friendly choices.
Why It Matters
Food production and consumption have a huge effect on the planet. From pollution to greenhouse gas emissions, what we put on our plates shapes our future. Young people are key to creating lasting change, but many are not aware of how their food choices impact the environment. That’s where FOODPrint steps in. The project focuses on raising awareness and building knowledge through creative and interactive learning, helping young people take action and become part of the solution.
FOODPrint also responds to the growing need for new methods in youth education. It uses approaches like Artivism—the use of art for social and environmental activism—and Doughnut Economics, a fresh model that helps people understand the balance between meeting human needs and respecting the planet’s limits.
What Will Happen in the Project
FOODPrint will include both international and local activities that give young people and youth workers the chance to learn, exchange ideas, and act. Some of the main activities include:
– Capacity-building trainings on Artivism and Doughnut Economics for youth workers;
– The creation of a Food Eco-Labelling System to help evaluate the sustainability of everyday meals;
– Local research and assessments in schools, supermarkets, and fast-food places;
– A BOOT Camp in the Netherlands to bring young changemakers together;
– Conscious Consumerism Networking Events that connect organizations across Europe.
All activities aim to build understanding, foster critical thinking, and promote teamwork in creating a more sustainable future.
Youth at the Center
At the heart of FOODPrint are the young people themselves. Sixty young leaders, known as Future Food Influencers, will be selected to represent their countries and lead actions in their communities. These young changemakers will receive special training, take part in field visits to eco FoodLabs, and carry out real-life assessments of their food environments.
One of the most exciting events will be the Great Europe Bake Off Day Challenge, where young participants will compete in baking with local, seasonal, and sustainable ingredients. Their work will also be featured in a creative publication called “Food: Season & Seasoning” Cookbook, showcasing youth-driven ideas and recipes for sustainable living.
A European Effort
FOODPrint is built on strong cooperation between organizations from six countries: the Netherlands, Germany, Greece, Romania, Slovakia, and North Macedonia. This international partnership allows for cross-cultural learning and exchange, while also addressing local challenges and solutions. Together, the partners are creating an open space for young people to connect, share, and lead change on a European
level.
The project promotes cooperation between youth organizations and gives a voice to young people from diverse backgrounds, including those with fewer opportunities. By doing so, it also strengthens civil society and builds a more inclusive and participatory Europe.
Our Vision for the Future
The vision behind FOODPrint is to support the goals of the European Green Deal and the EU Youth Strategy by helping young people become active citizens who care about sustainability. The project encourages conscious consumerism, creative action, and the power of youth voices in shaping a better future.
By combining education, creativity, research, and action, FOODPrint empowers a new generation of leaders who understand the impact of their choices—and are ready to make a difference.
